To confuse the situation Table 3 of IEC 60038 lists nominal voltages above 1 kV and not exceeding 35 kV as "Medium Voltage, and Table 4 defines "High Voltage" as voltages above 35 kV and not exceeding 230 kV. It is however not as simple as that because switchgear manufacturers makes this even more difficult to follow; for example ABB says this about Medium Voltage equipment: ANSI standard: 15kV, 27kV and 38kV IEC standard: 12kV, 13.2kV, 17.5kV, 24kV, 36kV and 40.5kV
